Celebrity Justice
Bail Is a Bitch

So your family has a gazillion bucks and you can't post $20,000 bail. That really blows.

Barron Hilton is rotting away, waiting to get released. Paris won't bail him out, so his friends came to do it. But there's a snag. Barron's buds showed up with $2,000 cash, assuming they only had to pay 10%. They assumed they could take the 10% to the Sheriff and spring their friend, but the Sheriff doesn't provide discounts -- only a bail bondsman will take a William Morris percentage.

So now Barron's buds are off looking for a bail bondsman. We hear the meatloaf dinners are excellent. Tastes like chicken.

62. He is still a kid rich or not and we don't know if he has done anything else wrong. JJst because his sister isn't the best role model doesn't mean this guy is just as bad. You guys are pretty harsh for not knowing anything about this kid. Normal people make mistakes and don't get ridiculed so why would you do it to this guy?
Try and be humane next time. You all should be praying that he learns from this and decides to do better, not for him to rot in jail for a weekend

64. The reason the bail is $20,000 versus $5,000 was that he is now charged with two counts instead of one. The original charge was misdemeanor DUI for which a $5,000 bail was set. The second charge is a felony possession of a fake State of CA ID (Drivers License) for which an additional $15,000 bail was set. The total thus is $20,000. It would seem that he or one of his buds or gfs would have pretty ready access to that relatively small amount of cash, even if both of his sisters refused and his parents said tough luck. If he deposited the actual amount of bail, it would all be returned to him at no cost subsequent to his scheduled arraignment on 04/14/2008. However, with a bail bond, he has to pay a non-refundable 10% (or higher) prremium against the $20,000 amount and there can be other charges as well.
What is confusing about this case is the timeline. Some articles state a collision occured at 6:10 am on PCH just north of Sunset between the black Mercedes 350E that he was in and a gray Ford Ranger and that the CHP (CA Highway Patrol) responded. Other accounts indicate a gray truck saw him driving erratically not long before 8:00 am and chased him into the Union 76 station on PCH near Carbon Canyon and some of these stories indicate that the gray truck at the gas station had a dent presumably caused by a collision between the 2 vehicles. What accounts for the nearly 2 hours between the reported time of the original collision and the time at 8:04 am when the police responded and arrested him at the 76 station which is just a few miles up the road on PCH? Also, it was reported that a woman was driving the black Mercedes 350E at the time of the collision, but there is no explanation as to how Barron-Boy then became the driver of the Mercedes.
Who is the Mercedes registered to? Is it a Hilton family car, his car, or the woman's car? Who is the mystery woman he was with and why isn't she being named - or apparently charged? This is getting stranger by the moment with much information unexplained. Why would be pull into the 76 station and drive around in "crazy cirles" and strike an attendant at the station as is being reported? Did he somehow think he was being followed by dangerous people? Who originally reported the black Mercdes as driving erratically? Was it the Ford Ranger driver at 6:10 am or later, was it the struck attendant, or someone else? Why are his parents not getting more actively involved in this? Yep, he was being a bad boy, but he's still their little bad boy and their responsibility, particularly if it is their Mercedes he was driving. Where was he drinking? Was he drinking at a friend's place, at home, on the beach, or what? It's really odd how with all of the accounts all day, there are many conflicting stories and much missing information. Anyone got any clues as to what's really going on here? This boy's got some 'splainin' to do...

65. One thing that miserly or fair-weather friends and family fail to realize is the distinct possibility of dying in jail or worse. What male raper wouldn't want a Hilton notch on his belt.

66. What is the Hilton family up to? Why have they abandoned their son during the time he needs them most? Even adults are drugging and drinking. They are the people who are teaching the children. This young man do not belong in jail, but in the hospital where he can receive proper treatment and undergo some therapy that would help stop his addiction problem.

69. My God, this poor kid must feel horrible. Just because he is a Hilton everyone is so quick to rip on him. I am definitely not defending drunk driving, but give a kid a break. Thank goodness he didn't hurt anyone with his extreme vile behavior. Let him go in peace and thank God there wasn't any serious bodily harms. God Damn, I hope the kid learns that you cant't drive with any alcohol in your system whatsoever.

70. Only $20,000? I'm sure the Hiltons could find that paltry amount under the cushions of their couch!

71. WHY DOES TMZ ONLY COMPLAIN ABOUT PARIS ??????
WHAT ABOUT THIS KIDS LAZY,UNCARING PARENTS ???? WHERE WERE THEY ?
HIS PARENTS ARE REALLY WORTHLESS.....DID THEY DO THEIR MEDIA PARENTING DURING PARIS'S STAY IN JAIL JUST BECAUSE PARIS IS MORE FAMOUS ? THEY WERE A LOT MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HER !.

72. Poor kid. I would put myself up for adoption if I were him. You don't end up as much when you have such loser parents.

73. BHdude: i get your arguments for the higher bail. but online @ the sheriff's department the bail is still @ $5000... with an additional $500, no mention of 2x$5000 or 4x$5000....

74.

Barron must be getting a little "tough love". It's not necessarily a bad thing, either.

If it had been me, my parents would have left me to figure bail out myself and then once I was either bailed out or did my stint, they would have chained one wrist to the clothes rod inside my closet and fed me flat food that they could slide through the crack underneath the door. Luckily, I never pushed them to act on the threat because I'm pretty sure they would have followed up on it.

That would put an end to the sneaking out, for sure.
